And to think I got off easy...

So, I was thinking, since it was my eighth week of pregnancy and I was feeling really good, maybe I would get off easy this time and not get sick. Well, heading into the the ninth week it's not looking so easy...
It hits around 3:00 or 4:00 and lasts into the evening. The best remedy, laying on the couch. The result? Since nap/rest time if over by then, the house is completely trashed. Literally from one end to the other, even the powder room looks like a tornado hit. There are pen drawings all over my dining room wall (major smack down ensued on that one!) and I can't even see one inch of my kitchen island. There are jackets and pj's strewn all over the floor of the downstairs and breakfast cereal crusted onto the place mats. Dishes piled up, food left on counters all day. This is my living nightmare!! I keep telling myself, this too shall pass (at least until the baby arrives!) and it is no reflection on my character...but it still stresses me out! And now it looks like Matt is getting sick, please pray for us if you think about it!!
Anybody have any anti-nausea remedies that worked for you? I read somewhere the other day that there's a B-vitamin supplement that is supposed to help and a band you wear on your wrist that applies acupuncture. Anyone heard of these things? I have a feeling, I will just have to grin and bear it, but i am willing to try anything to see if it works!

I have heard about the B-vitamin thing, too, but I don't know specifics. I never actually threw up with any of the girls, but I did get somewhat nauseous. I found that eating a gingersnap (make sure there is actual ginger in it) really helped me. But again, my sickness was very minor. I hope you feel better soon!

Gingersnaps also helped me. They were really gingery healthy kind (Mi-Del brand). I tried the pressure point wrist bands. It was hard to tell if they helped. I still felt sick but wondered, would I be feeling worse without them? A friend of mine is finding relief from seeing an accupunturist. For me, what I still need most mornings is lots of protein. That's what my midwife recommended - protein every 2 hours. I've been drinking protein shakes almost daily. If yours is hitting in the afternoon, try to make sure you're getting lots of nutrients up to that point. But yeah, laying on the couch was my best defense at keeping food in. I had to eat most meals reclining for a while there. But at least in our apartment I could keep my kids in sight. Or send Geneva to check on her brother. Hang in there! It will pass.

I did read somewhere that ginger was a good rememdy, I'll have to try that. I did get the sea bands and I think that they are helping. The first day I got them I wasn't nauseous at all and yesterday and today it has definately taken the edge off. And I have been able to get some things done...you can see the kitchen island!! I'll try the protein thing, it's just so hard to keep eating all the time! I feel like I eat and then 10 mins later I can start to feel hungry again, that's alot of eating! I need to stock up the pantry!

Trader Joe's makes a delicious ginger snap- they are called "Triple Ginger Snaps". I tried the bands, and they didn't work for me-- the bump was too painful. My hardest weeks were always between 8 and 14. Hang in there!

Jane, I found your blog through Melissa's blog because I didn't want to keep clogging up her comments, but I wanted to say that that final comment you made on there was well-put and kind and so true! I feel awfully for not being gentler in the first place, and you're absolutely right about needing to hold each other up. I could give you all kinds of reasons why I didn't speak well, but the fact is, I don't want to be the sort of person who puts ideas before people, or who talks before she thinks carefully.

AND Vitamin B6 is what you're looking for. I think it worked for me (who knows?), but what has definitely worked for me is Ginger Soothers - I found them at a Whole Foodsy type store. They're just ginger, lemon juice, honey and water, but a cold one of those helped so much. I also found that getting into the child's pose (from yoga - I think it's easier to look it up than for me to try to describe it!) made things better, if you can snatch a few minutes to do it. Here's to avoiding nausea! It's the worst.

Congratulations Jane! #3, wow. As for the nausea... no words of wisdom here. I suffered every day until 17 weeks both times. Just do what you need to do to get through the day, as you know! Cocacola always seemed to help at times. I'll pray for you. Hope you feel better very very soon!!
Much love to you all.
